Greyhounds Edge Field Hockey 1-0

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College field hockey squad dropped a closely played 1-0 contest to the visiting Greyhounds of Assumption College Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match-up at Stagg Field.

Freshman Nicole Spence (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) played well in net for the Yellow Jackets turning away two shots. Assumption goaltender Kaitlin Burke stopped three shots on goal for the Greyhounds.

The game's lone goal was scored at the 62:46 mark in the second-half after a back-and-forth contest, that saw neither team draw much of an advantage. Sarah Ranieri punched in the winning score for the Greyhounds after a scramble right in front of the Yellow Jacket's goal.

The goal was the only blemish on the stat sheet for Spence, who continues to play well between the pipes for the Yellow Jackets.

The Greyhounds out-shot AIC 6-4 and held a 9-5 lead in penalty-corners. The real story of the game was both teams solid defensive play.

The win propels Assumption to 5-6 overall and 3-6 in the conference while the loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 2-9 overall and 2-8 in the conference.

AIC will make a visit to Southern Connecticut to square off against the Owls Thursday October, 4th at 7 p.m.
