SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The field hockey team fell to UMass Lowell Wednesday night, 7-0, at Springfield College's Stagg Field. The River Hawks, who are ranked fourth in the latest STX/NFHCA coaches' poll improved to 12-2 overall and 11-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 2-12 on the season and 2-11 in league play.
Freshman keeper Amy Carbon (Bellingham, Mass.) made four saves to record her second shutout of the season. Freshman keeper Nichole Spence (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) made four saves in the first 17:25, while senior goalie
Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.) played the final 52:35 for AIC and recorded six saves.
Sophomore forward Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass.) opened the scoring at 8:37 with the only goal UMass Lowell would need and added he second tally of the match at the 23:52 mark. Freshman forward Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass.) added a goal at 14:16, while freshman forward Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior midfielder Jill Tierney (Newburyport, Mass.) scored 34-seconds apart in the 31st minute to give the River Hawks a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Freshman forward Michelle Perrault (Chelmsford, Mass.) added a goal at 65:53 and junior midfielder Heather Woodard (Ashburnham. Mass.) closed the scoring at 68:55.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday when they travel to Bentley for a Northeast-10 contest at 12 p.m.
