Atobra Ampedu ’21 MBA rejoined the American International College women’s soccer coaching staff prior to the 2023 season for his second stint with the team after serving as a graduate assistant coach in 2019-21. He assists in all aspects of the program.
His coaching career began at Manhattanville University, where he was a men’s soccer assistant coach in 2016 and 2017; as the lead assistant, he was also the recruiting coordinator. Under his leadership of the defense, four players earned MAC Freedom All-Conference honors in 2017, and Christoffer Staahl was named MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year in both seasons he played for Ampedu.
Ampedu then came to Western Massachusetts. He spent the 2018 season as the men’s soccer assistant coach at nearby Springfield College, helping lead the Pride to a NEWMAC Championship before coming to AIC. With the Yellow Jackets, Ampedu helped lead the team to the 2019 NE10 Tournament, where the sixth-seeded squad stunned third-seeded Adelphi, advancing on PKs after a 0-0 tie.
Most recently prior to his return to AIC, Ampedu was the head coach at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut from 2021-23.
Ampedu completed four seasons of NCAA Division I men’s soccer as a defender and played every possible game; as a freshman at the University of Hartford in 2012, he played 21 matches, scoring four goals and two assists. He then transferred to Boston College, appearing in 52 games on defense with four goals and three assists. In both 2014 and 2015, he served as a team captain. He helped lead the Eagles to an NCAA Division I Quarterfinals appearance in 2015.
Ampedu has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Boston College, and master’s degrees in sports business management from Manhattanville and in business administration from AIC.
