Michael Blochowski was named the Yellow Jackets’ Associate Head Football Coach prior to the 2024 season, assuming a pivotal role as Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach. Known for his defensive acumen and deep-rooted passion for the game, Blochowski brought to the program extensive experience and an unwavering commitment to player development.
In his first season with the Yellow Jackets, Blochowski engineered an aggressive, attacking defense that ranked in the Top 25 nationally in turnovers forced, helping propel the team to its strongest finish in several years. Beyond the X’s and O’s, he remained steadfast in his core philosophy of using athletics as a platform to develop young men into responsible, resilient, and community-minded leaders. He also played a major role in expanding the roster, recruiting high-character student-athletes from across the country, with a strategic emphasis on regions within a five-hour recruiting radius.
Building on that momentum, Blochowski’s defense took a significant leap forward in his second season. The Yellow Jackets led the NE10 in total defense and finished ranked among the top 15 defenses in Division II. The unit also led the conference in both first- and third-down defenses, ranking among the top ten nationally and leading Division II in those categories respectively.
Prior to joining the Yellow Jackets, Blochowski spent more than three decades as a cornerstone of the football program at St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo, Ohio. During his 30-year tenure, he served in nearly every coaching capacity, including head coach, associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and position coach.
During the 2019 and 2020 seasons, he coached the Knights’ defense under Head Coach Dan Chipka, helping elevate the unit to one of the top defenses in the region. His leadership was instrumental in revitalizing the program and sparking the team’s return to the OHSAA playoffs. Over the course of his career at SFS, the Knights captured nine city league championships, two district titles, one regional championship, and a state championship in 2001.
A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Blochowski earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems. In addition to coaching, he taught computer science, mentoring students both academically and athletically. He and his wife of 33 years, Kristin, have two sons—one of whom is continuing the family legacy as a college football coach in California.
