PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania - The American International College women's volleyball team will open at home undefeated as the Yellow Jackets downed host Jefferson University 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24 and then completed the weekend with a 25-23, 28-26, 25-16 victory over Holy Family University on Saturday, September 5.
AIC is now 8-0 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets jumped to an early lead, but the Rams pulled even at 11, and the opening set was back-and-forth from there until late; AIC finished things off with kills by
Lajla Rasljanin,
Victoria Mendez, and
Carissa Michel to take the opener.
The second saw Jefferson take the lead, but a six-point run by the Yellow Jackets, capped by a
Selin Guler ace, flipped the script, and AIC again closed on a 3-0 run with
Janelys Perez Cortes and
Victoria Soto Burgos kills and a set-point ace by Rasljanin.
AIC seemed poised to sweep, taking a 22-20 lead in the third, but the Rams rallied this time, taking a 25-23 win and handing AIC its first set loss of the season.
The Yellow Jackets took it personally.
The offense erupted in the fourth, as AIC scored 23 kills for their 26 points. Michel landed the last one to finish off the match on a dish from Mendez.
With one match left, AIC faced off with Holy Family University, and the Yellow Jackets continued their offensive outburst, hitting .311 for the three-set match. The Tigers hit well in the first two sets as well, but AIC was able to edge them out, taking the set points on errors before dominating the third defensively and holding the Tigers to a .000 attack percentage.Â
Perez Cortes had an absurd day offensively, with 37 kills in seven sets, including a .515 attack percentage against the Tigers. Michel added 23 kills, while Mendez dished 85 assists to go with eight kills.
Mia Berdecia made 33 digs. Rasljanin scored 11 kills and 11 blocks.
AIC will next host a two-day, six-team weekend at the Henry Butova Gymnasium for the 2026 IVHOF East Region Clash on September 11-12. For more information, including a match schedule,
