SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - Adelphi University outshot American International College field hockey 23 to eight en route to a second half 2-1 comeback win over the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, September 23.
AIC is now 2-2 on the season.
The first quarter saw little action, with both sides combining for only five shots. The second quarter saw more of the same as the teams entered halftime without a score and a combined 15 shots within the first half.
The Yellow Jackets were the ones to finally strike first, emphasizing on an offensive attack in the third with a
Mar Busqueta goal with an assist from
Victoria Nelson at 40:11. It was Busqueta's second goal of the season, and Nelson's third assist.
That would be AIC's only shot of the third, as Adelphi took control of the momentum before silencing the Springfield crowd in the fourth quarter. Within a three minute span, Emily Souke tied the game at one with a goal assisted by Caroline Beakes at 47:51 before Adelphi's Lana Mignon De Wet took a penalty stroke and scored to take the lead at 49:11. The Panthers hung on to win 2-1 from there despite a late push by AIC.
Frederique den Hartog made six saves in the loss;
Kylee Rinker had one defensive save.
Next up, AIC heads to No. 1 Kutztown University for a matchup on Saturday, September 26.
