SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's soccer team scored quick goals to start both halves of a 4-1 win over Daemen University on Tuesday, September 22.
AIC is now 4-3-0 on the season heading into Northeast 10 Conference play.
The Yellow Jackets scored a stunning tally to open the scoring, as
Savannah Kamperides took the ball from her own half of the field on the left side and cruised through the middle of the pitch. Reaching the top of the Daemen 18-yard box still completely unguarded, she wound up and blasted a shot into the upper-left corner of the net at 10:41 for her first collegiate goal.
Three minutes later, AIC doubled the lead.
Liz Braz set up for a right-side corner and tapped a short pass to
Caroline Skov Johansson, who fed the ball back to Braz. The junior dribbled to the edge of the box and then shot home her fourth of the season at 13:51.
A miscue allowed Daemen back into the game, as a pass back from the defense turned into a breakaway goal for Lily Macfarlane at 18:51.
Both teams took more shots from there, but halftime arrived with the score still 2-1.
Out of the break, however, AIC's offense came alive again.
Izzy Eaton flew down the left sideline and then cut toward the box. As she crossed into the 18, she was tripped, and AIC was awarded a penalty.
Elena Nunez took it and placed it just inside the right post for her first of the year at 49:04.
Barely two minutes later, Braz struck again. This time, it was a brilliant through ball from the right back spot of
Romane Bernier, who launched a long pass that allowed Braz to split the defense and strike low right for her fifth of the season at 51:31.
Daemen pushed, but
Hedda Haukland did not yield another goal. The rookie made 10 saves total in her victory in net.
AIC next hosts No. 20 Saint Michael's College on Saturday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m.
