SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - A second-half outburst helped the American International College men's soccer team to its first win of 2026, as the Yellow Jackets doused D'Youville University in a 4-1 game on Wednesday, September 2.
AIC is now 1-1-1 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets had pressure from the outset, and broke through in the 24th minute.
Marc Tasies Minguell took a feed near the top of the 18-yard box and cut just to the right before firing a perfect strike low left into the net for his first of the season at 23:28.
Early in the second, the Yellow Jackets doubled the lead. A foul on the right side of the 18-yard box meant AIC earned a penalty, and
Liam Smith slotted it low right at 47:16 for his first of the year.
Late in the half, AIC put in what looked like the finishing goal. A cross was mishandled by the D'Youville goalkeeper, and
Aaron Bruening won a netfront battle, blasting the rebound home at 76:41 for a 3-0 advantage. It was his second of the season.
However, D'Youville countered nearly immediately, with Ethan Robinson scoring on a loose ball after a breakaway was initially saved by Javier Solá Martínez, netting his and the Saints' first of the season at 77:33.
Bruening put the game away for good soon after, however; he blasted a free kick from 25 yards out to the right side of the net for his third of the season at 83:48 for the 4-1 final.
Solá Martínez made six saves in the win.
AIC returns to action Saturday, September 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York.
