GARDEN CITY, New York - The American International College baseball team dropped a four-game Northeast 10 Conference series at Adelphi University, falling 8-2 and 1-0 on Sunday, April 26 and then 5-2 and 10-6 in 10 innings on Monday, April 27.
AIC is now 14-30 overall and 10-22 in the NE10.
Josh Frometa singled to start the second inning and advanced on ground balls by the next two batters before
Anthony Javier drove him in with a hit to right. That lead lasted until the third, when the Panthers followed a two-out double with a hit batter and a single to tie the game.
In the fourth, Adelphi took the lead without a hit; a walk, hit batter, throwing error, and sacrifice fly brought an unearned run home. They added another similarly in the fifth, with a hit batter, stolen base, error, and groundout scoring a run.
In the sixth, the Panthers pulled away. A single and a hit batter started the frame, and then a triple, single, and double piled four runs on the board.
The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases in the eighth in a comeback effort, with
Sam Tanous walking before
Nate Suncar and Javier were both hit by pitches. However, the next batter hit into a double play. Tanous scored, but that was all the Panthers allowed, and the hosts added a run in their half of the inning for the 8-2 final.
A first inning single and double were enough to plate the second game's first run for Adelphi. Neither team had much offense from there as both teams were held to two hits each the rest of the way. AIC rallied in the seventh with a Suncar single and Javier walk, followed by a
Yoanel Valerio walk to pack the bags, but the team left the runs on the bases.
On the second day, AJ Quinn started AIC off with a bang. After
Yeudy Ramirez led off with a single, Quinn launched a two-run shot to left center. However, the Panthers were able to get a run back in their half of the first on a hit batter, single, balk, and sacrifice fly, and then scored three in the second with two walks, another hit batter, a single, and a throwing error.
They also added a run in the third with two walks, a wild pitch, and a groundout, and that was the sum of the scoring for the game.
Adelphi took a quick 2-0 lead in the finale, with two singles, a sacrifice fly, an error, a balk, and a groundout. However, AIC bounced back. Tanous,
Wesley Alfonso, and Javier each singled, with Tanous coming home on the third hit of inning two to plate a run.
Jost Frometa then tied the game in the fourth, hammering the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to lead off the inning. Suncar then doubled, and Javier followed by launching a 2-0 offering beyond the left field wall as well, giving AIC a 4-2 lead.
In the seventh, Adelphi cut the gap back to one with a single that turned into three bases on a throwing error; the miscue became irrelevant because the next two Panthers also recorded base hits, and the hosts loaded the bases before
Brandon Morrison struck out Evan Carway looking for the third out to leave them there.
Frometa then came up clutch again for his team in the eighth. He followed a
Cole Patterson single with his second round-tripper of the day, again to left.
In the ninth, the Panthers put two men on, but AIC quickly rebounded with two outs. A single scored a run, and a walk loaded the bases. Unfortunately for AIC, a miscue defensively followed, and a hit batter tied the game.
In the 10th, the Panthers loaded the bases with one out, and unloaded them in dramatic fashion with a walk-off grand slam to cap the comeback.
AIC finishes out the 2026 season with a final four-game NE10 series with Franklin Pierce University. The first two of the four-game set is slated for a noon start on Friday, May 1.
