SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – American International College Head Women's Volleyball Coach Eli Irizarry announced the resignation of Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach Michael Basile on Monday, April 13.

Basile is leaving AIC to become the head coach of the program at the University of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut.

"In my time at AIC, one thing has always stood out to me above all else, and that is the people. I am incredibly grateful to have been part of such a close-knit community. The relationships I've built at AIC are ones that I cherish closely and will last long after my time with the program. I wish them nothing but the best in years to come, both on the court and off. They are in great hands with Coach Eli Irizarry. AIC will always hold a special place in my heart, and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity and experiences they provided," Basile said.

"Coach Mike Basile made an enormous contribution to the program during his time here with AIC volleyball. The relationships he built, the trust the student-athletes had with him, and the memories made will always be remembered. We wish him the best of luck in his new journey," Irizarry said.

Basile joined the women's volleyball staff ahead of the 2024 season, and his tenure included two Northeast 10 Conference Championship Game appearances, with the team winning the NE10 in 2024, as well as back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

Overall, the team went 39-15 in his two seasons, including a mark of 22-3 in NE10 regular season and postseason matches.

Three student-athletes earned All-America status from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in the two seasons Basile was on staff, as Victoria Mendez earned the honor in 2024, while Janelys Perez Cortez and Perla Rosa gained the accolade in 2025.

Those awards topped a list of five All-East Region honorees and 10 NE10 All-Conference selections in the two campaigns.

AIC also achieved strong results academically with Basile on staff; Claudia Flores Marrero was named the NE10's Elite 24 Award winner in both of Basile's seasons, and five student-athletes earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors, as well as five College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Awards in the two seasons.

A national search for a new assistant coach will commence immediately.
