Game Recap: Softball |

Softball falls in quartet at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, New York - The American International College softball team lost each of a four-game Northeast 10 Conference series at Adelphi University, falling on walk-offs in 1-0 and 2-1 heartbreakers on Saturday, March 21 and dropping 4-1 and 6-0 decisions on Sunday, March 22.

AIC is now 3-11 on the season and 0-4 in the NE10.

Julia Krijgsman pitched a gem in the opener, allowing just four hits, and the lone run allowed came unearned in the seventh, as a double, passed ball, and single, all with two outs, gave the Panthers the win.

Adelphi scored one in the first, also unearned, on two hits and an error. That held until the seventh, when Belen Benito worked a leadoff walk. She was lifted for Isabel Kahli Robinson to pinch run, and the speedy infielder was able to dash to second on a groundout. That set the table for Brooklyn Cividanes, and, on a 1-2 pitch, she delivered an RBI single to left-center to tie the game.

The Panthers, however, were able to win the game in the eighth; a one-out double and bunt single put the winning run at third, and Emily Wolfe's sacrifice fly to left ended the contest.

Gabrielle Lambert allowed just the one earned run on five hits in 7.2 strong innings.

In the Sunday opener, Adelphi scored twice in the third with a double, single, walk, and single; the Panthers added a two-run home run in the fourth for the balance of their scoring. AIC's lone run came in the seventh; Morgan Bemont and Jilien Ayala both singled, and a base hit by Macey Burns scored Bemont.

Adelphi struck for three runs in the first inning of the series finale, and AIC was never able to get going; Krijgsman and Ayala had the lone hits for AIC, and Ayala also worked a walk in the 6-0 setback.

AIC will break from conference play to face Post University in a two-game set in Waterbury, Connecticut on Wednesday, March 25. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
