Stone's nine-point game not enough for Women's Lacrosse against Felician

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - Isabelle Stone scored nine points, but the American International College women's lacrosse team fell 12-11 to Felician University on Friday, March 13.

AIC is now 0-5 on the season.

The Golden Falcons jumped to a 2-0 lead in a back-and-forth first period that saw AIC roar back with Lily Hugo scoring her first collegiate goal on a feed from Stone at 8:24 and then Stone notching an unassisted man-up marker at 9:51. After a Felician goal gave the visitors back the lead, Gabrielle Walz scored with 49 seconds left in the period, leaving the teams tied 3-3 after one.

Felician exploded early in the second for four straight goals in a 3:28 span to take a 7-3 lead. AIC did get one back before halftime thanks to Stone scoring at 9:55, but AIC trailed 7-4 at the break.

Stone had all the answers in the third, however. She scored two goals in rapid succession at 2:03 and 2:41, then set up Sophia Sellins to tie the game at 5:49; that goal was Sellins' first in the NCAA. Stone then helped AIC take the lead, finding Walz open on a man-up at 13:48, and AIC led 8-7 after three.

Felician tied the game just 1:43 into the fourth, but Stone responded, winning the draw and scoring just 12 seconds later. However, the Golfen Falcons roared back with three goals in 2:18 to get ahead 11-9. Stone netted the double-hat-trick tally at 12:52 to pull AIC back within one, and both teams scored in the final minute, with Walz finishing a feed from Kathryn Lettieri at 14:44, but the Yellow Jackets did not find the net again, leaving the Golden Falcons with the 12-11 win.

Apart from the hat trick, Walz also won six draws. Maggie Kloster made 17 saves in net.

The Yellow Jackets will look to pick up a win in their next game, a home tilt against Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday, March 17 at 6:00 p.m.
