Softball splits finale in Florida

BARTOW, Florida - The American International College softball team split its last day at The Spring Games, falling 4-2 to Point Park University and defeating Southwest Minnesota State University 2-1.

AIC ends its trip at 3-5.

The Pioneers jumped on AIC early, with two first-inning runs. AIC was able to pull back within one in the third as Nevaeh Trejo singled to right to score Isabel Kahli Robinson.

Both teams scored in the fifth, with the Pioneers netting two, although one was unearned. AIC's run came in as Julia Krijgsman drove Robinson home on a groundout to short, closing out the scoring.

Against Southwest Minnesota State, the Mustangs scored their first run of the game in the third, taking advantage of a leadoff double, sacrifice bunt, and base hit to bring in the score.

In the fifth, AIC turned the score around. Jilien Ayala and Lauryn Ramalho each singled, and after a strikeout, Robinson laid down a bunt; not only did she reach, but the Mustangs defense threw the ball away, allowing Ayala to score. Brianna Salazar then laid down a sacrifice bunt, with Ramalho scampering home to put AIC in the lead.

From there, Gabrielle Lambert shut things down. The two remaining baserunners for the Mustangs reached on errors as she recorded the final nine outs of a complete-game four-hitter with ease for her second win of the campaign.

AIC will play its first games of 2026 in New England on Saturday, March 14 at the University of Bridgeport. The first pitch of game one of the doubleheader in Connecticut will be at 1:00 p.m.
