SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - "Progress is progress" has been the mantra of American International College President Nicolle Cestero, and that motto was in action for the acrobatics & tumbling team in its season opener against Georgian Court University on Thursday, February 12. Despite a setback, the team blew past its program record in the 205.545-57.300 loss.
AIC is 0-1 on the season.
From the jump, AIC showed improvements over its inaugural 2025 campaign. The team scored 6.000 points in the compulsory event's acrobatics heat and added 4.550 in the pyramid. The team then scored a 7.700 to open the acrobatics event with its five-element performance, outscoring the Lions in the event.
The team tacked on 5.400 points in the six-element synchronized heat and 5.750 in the seven-element heat, raising its score to 29.400 on the afternoon; just two events in, the team had already closed on the program's record for a full meet.
AIC then scored in the pyramid event for the first time, with 3.000 in the synchronized pyramid and 7.950 in the open pyramid, totalling a record 40.350 points before halftime.
In the tumbling event, AIC scored 6.500 points to win the duo pass and added 4.150 points in the trio pass before a 6.300 showing in the solo six-element pass by rookie
Jocelyn Doura in her home debut.
In total, the 57.300 points represented a boost of 23.675 points over last year's result against Quinnipiac University when AIC scored 33.625 points.Â
AIC will next head to New Jersey to face Caldwell University on Saturday, February 21.
