SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's volleyball team dropped a 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 21-25 Northeast 10 Conference matchup with Bentley University on Tuesday, October 6.
AIC is now 16-2 overall and 1-1 in the NE10.
Bentley jumped to a 16-9 lead in the opening set, but AIC roared back to tie things at 19-19. The Falcons locked in, however, scoring six of the next seven points and finishing the set on a Sophia Poehlein kill.
The Falcons took an early lead in the second as well, and this time held AIC off for the balance of the set, closing it out with a Poehlein block and a Tory Vitko ace.
AIC had its back against the wall and answered, and it was
Carissa Michel who led the way with six kills, while
Janelys Perez Cortes put down four and made six digs; she landed the final kill to force the fourth set.
The teams went back-and-forth, but Bentley pulled away late. AIC challenged the call on what appeared to be match point and it was overturned, but that only delayed the Falcons victory, as Olivia Alicante scored the final kill on the next rally.
Michel led AIC with 20 kills, with Perez Cortes totaling 13.
Mia Berdecia made 19 digs, while
Victoria Mendez dished out 41 assists.
AIC returns to action Saturday, October 10 at noon at Saint Anselm College.
