GARDEN CITY, New York - Close to home,
Victoria Nelson scored a beautiful first-quarter goal, but it was the only tally for the American International College field hockey team in a 6-1 loss to Adelphi University in Northeast 10 Conference play on Saturday, October 31.
AIC is now 4-10 overall and 2-6 in the NE10.
Adelphi jumped out to a quick lead, with Jody van Aardt scoring twice in the first 2:34.
Nelson pulled AIC back within one with her second of the year at 7:48, spinning her stick and reversing the ball from the left side of the circle to the top right corner of the net.
However, Adelphi took over from there, scoring in the last second of the first frame, and adding two more in the opening 4:44 of the second. The Panthers also netted a goal at 13:47 of the third for the 6-1 final.
Frederique den Hartog made 10 saves in the setback.
AIC's final regular-season game is Saturday, November 7 at noon at Saint Michael's College.
