No. 9 Saint Anselm blanks Field Hockey

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - No. 9 Saint Anselm College used a three-goal burst in the third quarter to ultimately earn a 4-0 win over the American International College field hockey team in Northeast 10 Conference play on Saturday, October 24.

AIC is now 3-9 with a 1-5 NE10 mark.

AIC's defense was largely able to keep the Hawks in check in the first half, allowing just four shots on goal. The closest the visiting squad came to scoring was on a corner midway through the second, but Grace Boisvert made a defensive save to keep the ball out of the net near the left post.

In the third, however, Saint Anselm broke through. Meghan Smith fired home a penalty corner goal at 2:42 on a feed from Kelly Holmes.

Bella DiFiore then scored the first of her two in a 1:44 span, receiving a bouncing ball that deflected several times in the circle to her for a shot from the right side at 5:04; she also finished a give-and-go from Smith on a corner at 6:48, pushing the lead to 3-0.

AIC's defense regrouped and held the Hawks off more effectively, but the offense could not generate many chances; a Ruby Reid breakout goal in the final minute of regulation was all the remaining scoring in the 4-0 contest.

Quinlyn Moll made five stops in the setback.

AIC next plays Pace University at home on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m.
