SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The best efforts of strikers on both sides of the American International College men's soccer team's contest with Assumption University were rendered moot by the goalkeepers in a 0-0 Northeast 10 Conference draw on Saturday, October 10.
AIC is now 6-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the NE10.
Assumption held a 4-1 corner kick advantage in the first half, but AIC outshot the Greyhounds in the frame, 3-1. Neither side could break through, however, with an early Evan Conceicao shot hitting the crossbar for the Greyhounds, and a near-miss in the 32nd minute by
Marco Cabrera.
In the second, the shot totals rose, but the goal totals remained low, with Javier Solá Martínez making a pair of saves in a 35-second span early on, and a tremendous denial on
Sandro Alvarez Jimenez by a diving Federico Foganio.
In the end, neither goalkeeper yielded; Solá Martínez ended the day with a five-save shutout and Foganio took home a seven-stop clean sheet.
AIC next turns its sights on Saint Michael's College for a road tilt on Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m.
