FAIRFIELD, Connecticut - The American International College men's volleyball team fell 18-25, 16-25, 18-25 to Sacred Heart University on Tuesday, January 27.
AIC is now 0-5 on the season.
In the opening set, the Pioneers were able to build a significant lead, and were up seven at the media timeout, leading 15-8. AIC was never able to close the gap, and the Pioneers converted their third set point to take the opening frame.
The second set was much more back-and-forth, with AIC taking a 10-9 lead on an
Aidan Miller ace, but the Pioneers went on a hot streak to lead 15-11 at the media stoppage. The hosts stretched that out into a 16-6 run to take the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Much like the second set, AIC was able to keep things close early, but the Pioneers began to pull away around the media timeout, leading 15-11 again at the break. The home squad finished the contest off on an AIC serving error on match point to take the win.
Dymittry Terra notched five kills on eight swings as well as two blocks, while
Robert Santana scored four kills on five attacks in the third set. Miller dished 17 assists.Â
AIC now has a significant off stretch before a two-match trip that features Long Island University on Friday, February 6 and Fairleigh Dickinson University on Saturday, February 7. Both contests are set for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
