Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Voll's blast, den Hartog's stops lead Field Hockey past STAC

SPARKILL, New York - Fenna Voll rifled home a first-quarter penalty corner goal, and Frederique den Hartog made it hold up as the American International College field hockey team blanked Saint Thomas Aquinas College 1-0 in Northeast 10 Conference play on Wednesday, September 24.

AIC is now 2-5 on the season and 1-1 in the NE10.

Voll's tally came just past the midpoint of the first quarter. There was no disguising the play; Grace Boisvert's insert went to Voll on the left side of the circle, and she wound up and shot nearly immediately, finding the cage just inside of the right post at 7:47 for her third of the season.

As it turned out, that was the lone scoring play of the game. Though the Yellow Jackets outshot the Spartans 11-7, neither side conceded again. AIC needed den Hartog to make key saves, especially in the third quarter when the host Spartans generated six penalty corners of their 11 in the game.

She did the job, collecting her second career shutout win.

The one other close play came in the second quarter, when Mia Wood came up with a spectacular defensive save after den Hartog's initial diving stop on a scoring chance just beyond the five-minute mark.

The Yellow Jackets will return to the Hudson Valley for their next contest, an NE10 tilt at Pace University on Saturday, September 27 at 12:00 p.m.
