Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late-game heroics help men's soccer blank Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, New York - A high-effort header goal by Leonard Riby-Williams broke a scoreless tie late in regulation as the American International College men's soccer team stole a 1-0 road win at Molloy University on Saturday, September 20.

AIC is now 1-1-3 on the campaign.

Javier Solá Martínez was busy in the first half, turning back four shots to keep the game scoreless. Molloy had its best chance right near the 25-minute mark, but a defensive save and a rebound stop by Solá Martínez kept the scoresheet clean.

The Yellow Jackets were better able to limit the Lions offense in the second half, and generated their first scoring chance of the game in the frame.

With the score still 0-0 in the final five minutes, AIC drew a corner kick. Raphael Rothschedl booted the ball into the box, and it bounced four times off of heads, with Keegan McGonigle forcing the ball back towards the Lions net. Riby-Williams was there, driving the ball home just beyond the reach of Lions netminder Callum Hunt to put AIC up at 85:59 with his first of the year.

Molloy could not generate another opportunity in the limited time, despite drawing one more corner, and AIC held on for the victory.

Ultimately, Solá Martínez made six saves in his first NCAA win and shutout.

The team opens conference play on Wednesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Franklin Pierce University.
