SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – American International College Director of Athletics Rob Kearney announced the promotion of Alyssa Jones, MAT, LAT, ATC to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance on Monday, August 25.

"Alyssa came to AIC last year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and had an immediate impact on not only the Athletic Training Department but the student-athletes. Alyssa's athletic training skills, interpersonal relationships, and understanding of who AIC is gives me confidence in her ability to be our new Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance. Alyssa has shown a commitment and love for this institution, which is why she is the best fit for this position," Kearney said.

"I'm so excited for this opportunity to learn and grow within the profession of athletic training. I'm even more excited to be a continuous face and supporter of AIC Athletics and our student-athletes," Jones said.

Jones joined the Yellow Jackets in October 2024 and has worked with all of AIC's athletics teams, aiding in both injury prevention and providing short-term and long-term treatment to athletes in need. She has most directly worked with the football team since coming to the College.

Jones came to AIC from Brandeis University, where she was an assistant athletic trainer responsible for the Judges' volleyball, women's basketball, and baseball teams. While at Brandeis, she was responsible for evaluating acute and chronic injuries, as well as designing and implementing treatment and rehab for those injuries. She also provided primary coverage in games and practices as well as in a clinical setting, utilizing several modalities and various equipment to aid in this process.

Prior to her time at Brandeis, Jones was a certified athletic trainer at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, assisting physicians in providing care as well as performing initial assessments and both fitting and educating patients with a variety of assistive devices.

Jones earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from the University of West Alabama in 2020, and followed up by earning a master's of science in athletic training in 2022. While earning her master's degree, Jones worked with West Alabama's baseball and women's soccer teams in 2020-21 and the football team in the fall of 2021, and then the University of Alabama at Birmingham softball team in spring 2022.

Jones carries a Massachusetts state licensure and is Board Certified. She additionally is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and is certified in first aid and AED use by the American Heart Association.
