Baseball honors seniors, but falls to New Haven in regular season finale

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – The American International College baseball team closed out the 2025 Northeast-10 Conference regular season with a pair of setbacks, 5-2 and 11-2 in seven innings, against the University of New Haven on Saturday, May 3.

AIC's record is now 19-23 overall and 13-11 in the NE10.

All of the offense in game one came early; Brendan Edvardsen hit a solo home run in the second, while Josh Frometa launched a one-run shot in the third for a 2-0 AIC lead.

However, in the fourth, Aedan Forde smacked a three-run home run that just barely cleared the wall, and the Chargers added back-to-back RBI doubles to take a 5-2 lead.

From there, neither team scored again as New Haven held on for the win.

In the second game, the Chargers racked up six free passes in the first seven batters to take a 3-0 lead, and a base hit made it 4-0 before AIC could get to the plate. The visiting side added two more RBI doubles in the second and a solo home run in the third to extend the lead to 7-0.

AIC broke the shutout in the home half of the third. Leandro Guevara walked, and Nick Serce launched his team-best 11th longball of the season, crushing a pitch to right-center.

The offense was shut down from there, however, and the Chargers tacked on a run in the fourth and three in the fifth.

In the seventh, the Chargers were threatening to add more when Mother Nature intervened; lightning and heavy rain forced the game to be halted, and the contest was declared final as more than five innings had been completed.

Between the two games, AIC recognized its nine seniors: Joseph Lynch, Justin Oquendo, Alex Perez, Tim Krol, Kiernan Caffrey, Hayden Mutz, Serce, Edvardsen, and Frometa.
