Bentley sweeps doubleheader against Baseball

WALTHAM, Massachusetts - The American International College baseball team dropped both games of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader, 5-4 and 8-3, at Bentley University on Sunday, April 13.

AIC is now 12-15 overall and 6-6 in the NE10.

Yeudy Ramirez started the scoring in the second with a two-out solo home run. Kiernan Caffrey followed with a double and scored on an Adrian Streeter single to give AIC a 2-0 lead. The Falcons responded with a double and single to put runners at the corners with no outs, and a sacrifice fly scored one, but a lineout double play ended the threat.

That was all the scoring until the sixth, when Bentley tied the game with a leadoff inside-the-park home run to center field. The Falcons then took the lead in the seventh with three runs, stringing together three straight singles and scoring two of those runners via free passes with a walk and a hit batter; an infield hit scored the third before AIC turned another double play via lineout.

AIC put two on in the eighth, with Streeter and Cole Patterson both singling, and Leandro Guevara ultimately drove in the lead runner with a hit. In the ninth, Ramirez and Caffrey both singled, and Justin Oquendo hit a fly ball that scored Ramirez, but the Yellow Jackets stranded the tying run at first.

Bentley scored first in game two, trading a double play for a run in the opening stanza. The Falcons then scored three in the third with an RBI single and a two-run triple.

AIC cut the lead to 4-2 in the fourth as Caffrey doubled with the bases loaded to score Nick Serce and Guevara. However, the Falcons answered that two with four in the fifth, and AIC only managed one more run in the game, coming on a Patterson RBI double in the sixth.

The Yellow Jackets and Falcons will next face off at Richard F. Bedard Field on Wednesday, April 16 at 3:30 p.m.
