MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - The American International College men's basketball team was eliminated from the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament in an 84-53 loss to Saint Anselm College on Friday, February 28.
AIC ends the season with a record of 4-25.
The Yellow Jackets hit threes early to take a lead, with Jack Hall and Coleman Hopson hitting from deep in the first three minutes. Hopson hit a second, taking a feed from Tyrae Washington, just past the five-minute mark to give the Yellow Jackets a 15-10 advantage, and Hall splashed a jump shot to push the AIC lead to seven points shortly after.
A 10-point Hawks run made the lead evaporate, although Kanye Wavezwa broke that rally with a deep shot just before the midpoint of the half. However, the Hawks outscored the Yellow Jackets 19-8 over the next 10-minute stretch, taking a 41-30 lead into the break.
The Hawks continued to pull away to start the second, scoring the first six points before Hopson put in a jumper. Just after the five-minute mark of the half, a Juju Ramirez free throw pushed the Saint Anselm lead to 20, and the home team closed out strong, advancing to the NE10 Quarterfinal with the victory.
Hopson led AIC with 17 points, while Justice Ellison and Hall both scored 10 points.
