Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fourth-ranked Falcons use threes to edge Women's Basketball on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - No. 4 Bentley University drilled 13 field goals from beyond the arc, and needed all of them to barely edge out a feisty American International College women's basketball team 70-65 on Saturday, February 22 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

AIC is now 12-15 overall and 5-14 in the NE10.

Bentley took an early lead, sinking five shots from deep in the first frame, with Brooke Obar and Cassidy Yeomans each knocking in two, against four total field goals from AIC, and led 23-10 after one.

Though the Falcons made another five threes in the second, AIC was able to match offensively, thanks to 10 points from Chelsea Reeves on 3-of-3 shooting and a solid 4-of-5 at the line as the Yellow Jackets drove inside, attempting just one three of their own in the frame. At the half, Bentley led 43-29.

In the third, AIC began slowing the Falcons offense down. Bentley shot just 33.3 percent from the floor, including 2-of-7 from deep, and Keyvanna Bennett hit three of her four shots, totaling seven points and adding four boards and two steals in the period to keep AIC close; both teams notched 15 points in the period and Bentley was up 58-44 after 30 minutes.

AIC began to close the gap in the final frame, as Bennett and Ahliya Phillips both nailed their chances, combining for six field goals and 18 points thanks to six free throws. Though AIC held Bentley to just 12 points, AIC's rally fell just short, with Bentley hanging on for the 70-65 victory.

Bennett and Reeves each scored 19 points to lead the way. Rhaymi Porter, AIC's lone senior who will exhaust her eligibility at the end of the season, grabbed 10 rebounds and made three blocks. Sarai Gurley notched four steals.

AIC will close the regular season on Tuesday, February 25 at 5:30 p.m. against Franklin Pierce University.
