SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team opened with a bang and never looked back against Franklin Pierce University in a 74-56 Northeast-10 Conference win on Tuesday, February 25.
AIC ends the 2024-25 regular season with a 13-15 record, including a 6-14 NE10 mark.
Though the Ravens scored the game's first point, AIC quickly took control, shooting a scorching 11-of-17 in the opening period, including 5-of-8 from deep. Sarai Gurley struck twice from beyond the arc, while Chelsea Reeves poured in nine points and assisted three other baskets. In total, AIC led 31-16 after one.
Peyton Grant was the sharpest AIC offensive scorer in the second with seven points, but the story of the frame was Rhaymi Porter. Not only did the senior swat away two opposing shots, but she made the first three-point field goal of her career, helping the Yellow Jackets to lead 43-28 at the halftime break.
Reeves and Ruzgar Christina Boyle took charge of the third, with Reeves putting in another nine and snagging five boards, while Boyle hit twice from long distance. Despite those two scoring all of AIC's field goals in the quarter, AIC outscored the Ravens 16-15, and held a 59-43 advantage going into the final frame.
The team made sure as a collective that the Ravens could not make a comeback, as eight different players contributed at least one point in the last stanza, putting away the win to move up in the standings on the regular season's final day.
Reeves had a phenomenal day, posting an 18-11 double-double and dishing six assists. Boyle scored 15 points and Grant added 10, while Porter grabbed nine rebounds and Keyvanna Bennett just missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
AIC now will focus on the postseason; as the 10th-seeded team in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament, the Yellow Jackets will face Adelphi University in Garden City, New York on Friday, February 28 at 5:30 p.m.
