Baseball sinks Flagler in extras for first win of 2025

ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida - The American International College baseball team won in dramatic fashion, downing Flagler College 4-3 in 12 innings on Friday, February 21.

AIC is now 1-1 on the season.

In the 12th frame, Cole Patterson was plunked by the first pitch of the inning. He advanced to second on a Brendan Edvardsen sacrifice bunt, and Sam Tanous bounced to short, pushing Patterson to third. With two down, Kiernan Caffrey was able to single just out of the reach of the Flager shortstop, allowing Patterson to come home and break the 3-3 draw.

In the home half, Romel Roca was able to strike out the first batter and draw a flyout to left on the second hitter before a single and a hit batsman put the potential tying and winning runs on base. However, Roca's next pitch was hit right at Edvardsen, who snared it to end the game.

AIC opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single by Josh Frometa that plated Edvardsen, who led the game off with a double to right. In the fourth, Leandro Guevara doubled down the right field line and came home one batter later as Yeudy Ramirez smacked an RBI single to right on an 0-2 pitch.

The Yellow Jackets then scored unearned in the sixth, as Nick Serce walked and Frometa hit an infield single; two batters later, Ramirez dropped down a sacrifice bunt, and an error at first allowed Serce to come in. However, Flagler also took advantage of a defensive miscue by AIC in the inning, scoring two of its three runs in the bottom half unearned, setting up the eventual extra innings.

Tim Krol did not factor into the decision, despite a quality start of six innings with one earned run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Anderson Cuello Batista threw the next four frames, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts, and Roca grabbed the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

The teams close out the series with a pair on Saturday, February 22 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
