WALTHAM, Massachusetts - The American International College women's volleyball team saw its season end in the 2025 NCAA Division II East Region Quarterfinal as the team fell to Post University, 19-25, 25-21, 15-25, 19-25 on Thursday, December 4.
AIC ends the year at 18-8.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind early in the first set on a five-point Eagles run, and though they closed to within two at 12-10, the team was never able to tie the contest back up as a result of 13 total serrors in the set.
AIC pulled out to a 6-3 lead early in the second, and though the Eagles rallied and briefly took a lead, the Yellow Jackets cleaned up their mistakes and made key plays.
Janelys Perez Cortes was at the forefront with several critical kills and blocks, and
Paola Soto Burgos extended AIC's edge to 22-15 with a kill, the widest margin of the night for the team. Perez Cortes made the set-point block to tie the match 1-1.
As with the second, AIC came out strong, and rolled to an 8-4 lead;
Victoria Soto Burgos and
Carissa Michel combined for a block that forced a Post timeout. The Eagles rallied from there, with a 7-1 run to take an 11-9 lead, and after AIC tied the match 12-12, the Eagles erupted for 10 straight points, ultimately winning the set on an ace.
The fourth set was even for the early portion; Perez Cortes put down a kill that had AIC within one at 14-13. However, the Eagles went on a six-point run to put the set and match out of reach, and the fifth-seeded squad completed the win to advance, ending AIC's season.
Perez Cortes led AIC with 11 kills and four blocks.
Perla Rosa collected 25 digs and 22 receptions, as well as an ace, and
Daniella Russo-Lolas dished 20 assists.
Paola Soto Burgos made nine kills and 10 digs.
