PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania - The American International College men's basketball team came out on the wrong end of an 86-75 result against Holy Family University on Saturday, November 15.
AIC is now 0-2 on the season.
The teams traded points early, with
Aguibou Balde scoring two free throws and
Chase Nelson hitting a three, but the Tigers slowly built to an eight-point edge despite another triple from Nelson that
Tony Felder set up. The deep ball was working for both teams, as
Se'yphon Triplett nailed two, both from Felder, who also hit one himself off a feed from Nelson to counter a pair from the hosts and shrink the gap to 26-23 less than eight minutes in.
Both offenses slowed from there, with a seven-minute stretch of just 13 total points that saw Felder pull AIC within two on yet another deep make. The final run of the half belonged to the home squad, however, as the Tigers pulled away to lead by nine at the break, 47-38.
The long ball kept its critical role into the second half; two by the Tigers built the lead to 12 before
Coleman Hopson sank a pair of his own to pull AIC within six. However, the Tigers kept AIC at bay from there, holding the Yellow Jackets off for the 86-75 win.
Hopson led AIC with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting; Felder notched 15, making six of 11 attempts, and led AIC with five helpers.
Aleksy Walczak and Balde both scored 10 as well.Â
AIC's next opponent is a Northeast 10 Conference foe, but will not count toward conference standings. The Yellow Jackets visit Pace University on Wednesday, November 19 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
