ROCHESTER, New York - The American International College women's volleyball team dismantled Roberts Wesleyan University, 25-10, 25-9, 25-16 on Sunday, October 5 to sweep a three-match-in-two-day trip to Western New York.
AIC is now 8-3 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets had everything working in the first set, and no one was more locked in than
Paola Soto Burgos, who landed five kills on seven swings and added three aces, three digs, and three receptions to a nearly perfect set.
Lajla Rasljanin also scored four kills on seven swings as AIC hit .464 and held the Redhawks to just five kills and an attack percentage of .000.
The second set was even more awe-inspiring than the first for AIC. This time, the offensive weapons included
Selin Guler, who scored four kills on six swings, and
Chelsea Foulis, who swatted four on seven and had two blocks. Rasljanin kept it up too, with kills on all three swings and three blocks besides. The Redhawks, meanwhile, hit negative, and managed just four kills in the set.
In the third, AIC pulled away quickly, building an 11-2 lead and shutting the door on anything even resembling a Redhawks comeback.
Claudia Flores Marrero put up four kills, while
Carissa Michel had three in the final set, and AIC finished the job to sweep the weekend.
AIC hit .429 for the match while holding the hosts to -.026, as the Yellow Jackets made just five attack errors.
Daniella Russo-Lolas dished 21 assists and
Zorybeth Febres had an additional 15.
Perla Rosa notched 12 digs to lead the match. Rasljanin hit .615 and added five blocks to her eight kills on 13 swings with no errors.Â
