SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College field hockey team fell 5-1 to Adelphi University in Northeast 10 Conference play on Saturday, October 25.
AIC is now 2-13 with a 1-9 NE10 record.
The Panthers jumped to an early 2-0 lead as Katie Dettorie scored at 4:13 and Lana Mignon de Wet added a goal at 7:45.
In the second, the visiting side scored twice more; Jenna Geels tallied at 2:49 and Mignon de Wet scored her conference-best 16th of the season at 4:19.
AIC broke the shutout immediately after on a brilliant individual effort.
Fenna Voll broke up the left side and beat four defenders before firing a sharp-angle shot into the net at 4:34, tying her for AIC's lead with her sixth of the season.
However, Adelphi countered that goal at 6:44, as Olivia Docyk pushed back a rebound for a 5-1 Adelphi advantage.
AIC elected to switch goalkeepers at halftime, despite
Frederique den Hartog's solid play featuring 12 saves, turning to
Quinlyn Moll. The junior dazzled with eight saves in the third and shut down 12 more shots in the fourth, ending the contest with a career-best 20 saves, not allowing a single goal despite the deluge.
Voll, in addition to her goal, made two defensive saves, and
Kylee Rinker made one.
AIC returns to play on Tuesday, October 28 at home against Saint Michael's College at 7:00 p.m.
