SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College field hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime in a back-and-forth Northeast 10 Conference battle with Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, October 11.
AIC is now 2-10 on the season with a 1-6 NE10 mark.
The Yellow Jackets struck first just 2:21 into the game as
Anella Rossi drew a foul just outside the offensive circle near the end line to the right of cage. She cut toward the net and fed the ball to
Milagros Zanatelli, who stuffed in her fifth goal of the season.
In the second, AIC added to its lead on a penalty corner.
Grace Boisvert inserted to the left side for
Mar Busqueta, who fired the ball back to Boisvert. The senior defender fired the ball at the net and it went through for her first of the season at 3:50.
The Penmen bounced back, scoring a goal just 2:29 after AIC's as Zoe Demers finished a netfront play.
In the second half, the Penmen tied the game on a third-quarter penalty corner, as Abby Forbes put in a scoring chance at 11:34.
Southern New Hampshire then took the lead in the fourth, as Natalie Paradzik hit the net at 2:28.
AIC was not done, however, and converted another corner to tie the game. This time, Boisvert took back the ball after her initial insert, and found Zanatelli in front for her team-best sixth of the season at 8:10.
That pushed the teams to overtime for the second meeting of the season. For the second time, the Penmen were able to net the final goal, with Kim Dull converting a corner at 5:18 to end the contest.
Frederique den Hartog made 10 saves in the loss.
AIC next plays Bentley University on Tuesday, October 14 at 6:00 p.m. in an NE10 game.
