GARDEN CITY, New York - The American International College softball team was swept in Northeast-10 Conference doubleheaders at Pace University and Adelphi University on April 7-8.
AIC is now 4-26 with a 1-9 NE10 mark.
The Setters raced out to a 6-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first and four in the bottom of the second, tacking on one more in the fifth for the win. AIC was held to two hits, singles by Alexis Jimenez and Abigail Wells; Jimenez threw 4.1 strong innings of relief, allowing the one unearned run on three hits with no walks.
In game two, Wells led off with a walk and was sacrificed over; Mackenzie Berman then singled and swiped second, setting up Kodi Gora to drive both in with a single through the middle. However, the Setters tied the game in the second, and notched six in the third before adding one each in the fourth and fifth for the run-rule win.
At Adelphi, the Panthers notched two in each of the first three innings; AIC scored twice in the third as well thanks to hits by Destiny McGrath, Jimenez, and Berman, the latter of which brought home the first two with the help of an error in center field. However, the hosts held AIC off from there, adding a run in the fourth for the 7-2 final, and limited AIC to just two hits in the 10-0 finale.
AIC returns to Judy Groff Field to face Bentley University for an NE10 doubleheader on Tuesday, April 11 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
