SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's rugby team had a strong showing as the squad hosted the AIC Yellow Jackets 7s Invitational on Sunday, April 2.
AIC took second place, falling to Army West Point in the championship.
AIC, Army, and Northeastern each entered two squads into the competition; the AIC Black squad opened with a win over Northeastern's A side, 34-0, while the AIC Gold unit won 22-0 over the University of New Haven.
In the second round of pool play, AIC Gold suffered a setback to Army Black, but AIC Black downed Bowdoin 27-12. AIC Black then finished pool play by trouncing Colby-Sawyer College 53-0.
In the knockout rounds, AIC Gold bowed out to Army Black by a 57-0 count, but AIC Black handled New Haven 52-0 to advance to the semifinal. There, they edged out a strong Sacred Heart University team 17-10, before ultimately falling in the finals to the top Army team, 20-0.
The Yellow Jackets will next play on Long Island at the LIU 7s on Sunday, April 16.
