SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - A strong start helped No. 16 Assumption University defeat the American International College women's lacrosse team 17-6 on Saturday, April 1.
AIC is now 2-5 with an 0-3 Northeast-10 Conference mark.
Assumption outscored AIC 5-1 in the first, with AIC's lone goal coming shorthanded on a brilliant feed from Liz Day to Jordyn Galgay in front at 10:48. Likewise, the second was mostly controlled by Assumption; AIC's only goal of the period was Day, who took a pass from Isabelle Stone and finished at 9:52.
Sam Giordano scored both of AIC's third-period goals, the former early in the fame on a free position shot and the latter coming on a pass from Kaitlyn Morris. In the final frame, Aimee Stairs scored her first two collegiate goals, the second of which was set up by Anevay Rice.
Marissa Long had a strong showing in cage, stopping 16 shots.
AIC next heads to No. 8 Le Moyne College on Tuesday, April 4 for a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
