Baseball drops back-and-forth battle with Owls

BOCA RATON, Florida - In a game that saw both sides score early and often, the American International College baseball team came up on the wrong end of an 8-6 decision against Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University in the first of two Florida meetings between the teams.

AIC falls to 5-6 with the loss.

Both teams scored once in the first, with the Owls striking on a sacrifice fly and the Yellow Jackets countering with Jackson Haker's RBI single that hopped over the shortstop. In the second, the Owls retook the lead, 2-1, but AIC scored twice as Ryan Lavelle and Brendan Edvardsen each drove home runners. Southern Connecticut bounced right back with an unearned run that came home on an error in the next half inning, tying the game 3-3.

The Owls took charge in the fifth with a two-run double and then added another in the sixth with an RBI double. AIC pushed back in the seventh as Edvardsen hit a longball. The Owls added two more in the ninth, and that proved to be the deciding factor as AIC notched two unearned runs, but the tying run at the dish struck out to end the game.

AIC next faces Caldwell University on Friday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m.
