Men's soccer earns hard-fought draw against Le Moyne

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – The American International College men's soccer team battled to a wild 1-1 draw against Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday, September 28.

AIC is now 1-3-5 on the year with a record of 0-1-3 in the NE10.

The first half was scoreless, but hardly for lack of trying. The two sides combined for 15 shot attempts, including a few narrow misses that just went wide of target. Both sides had two such chances in the first 16:30; ironically, the first shot that actually was on goal, by Le Moyne's Owen Bauer in the 29th minute, was arguably the least dangerous chance to that point.

In the second half, AIC finally busted the shutout. Gianfranco Loprieato's corner kick from the left side was brilliantly placed to the right post, and Leonard Riby-Williams headed it home for his first of the year at 58:55.

The lead did not survive two minutes, however, as the Dolphins drew a penalty at 60:20, and Alessandro Otte hit the low left corner to tie the game.

The action continued at a nearly frantic pace, with more chances at both ends. The Dolphins had the best of these on a free kick that Ben Quigley headed on target with six minutes to play, and only an unbelievable defensive play by David Harper – who, back to the field, kicked the ball over his head right on the goal line to keep it out – held the score at 1-1, which ultimately proved the final.

The Yellow Jackets next head to The College of Saint Rose for a Saturday matinee, kicking off against the Golden Knights at 4:30 p.m.
