Field hockey defeats Molloy in NE10 opener

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College field hockey team earned a 2-1 win over Molloy University in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, September 24.

AIC improves to 2-4 with a 1-0 NE10 mark in 2022.

The Yellow Jacets jumped to a 1-0 lead just 6:33 in on a cross pass from the right side of the circle by Logan Shunney that Na'Bree Wallace tapped through the goalkeeper for her second of the year at 6:33.

In the second, the Lions tied the game; Alexa Denis put in a rebound at 9:10 from just past the right post.

In the third, the deciding tally was scored by the Yellow Jackets; off a foul, Shunney sent a pass up the right side to Morgan Martellio, and her shot from a tough angle fooled the goalkeeper and went in for her second of the season at 3:25 of the period.

From there, AIC held off the Lions; Taylor Wildes made three saves to keep them off the board for the rest of the game and earn the win.

AIC plays its next two on the road, beginning at Assumption University on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m.
