Defenders lead offense as women's soccer blanks New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - The American International College women's soccer team shut out the University of New Haven 2-0 in the team's first Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Saturday, September 10.

AIC improves to 3-0-1 on the year with the win and 1-0-0 in the NE10.

A scoreless first half gave way to AIC pushing forward in the second, and the team drew a penalty kick as a result. Rachel Newman was selected to take the attempt and buried it for her first of the year at 51:53.

Another defender put on an offensive show for the Yellow Jackets later in the half, as Leya Vohra charged in and pounded back the rebound of a Caroline Porter shot that hit the crossbar at 73:03.

AIC's goalkeeper, Olivia Sousa, recorded her third shutout of the season, improving to 3-0-1 with four saves in the win.

The Yellow Jackets next head to Le Moyne College on Tuesday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m.
