HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:

  • The Hawks scored the first two runs of the game on a home run by Brady Doran to left field in the first.
  • The Yellow Jackets cut their deficit in half in the second when senior Dalton Quinn answered with a towering show of his own to left center.
  • The Hawks scored the next four runs before Quinn singled through the left side with rookie Michael Nazzaro on second to make it 6-2.
  • Trailing 7-2 in the top of the fifth, the Yellow Jackets put a crooked number on the board. With the bases loaded and one out, Nazzaro walked to score freshman Alexander Morse which forced St. Anselm to go to the arm barn. After the change and an out Quinn and junior Chad Lavelle knocked back-to-back singles in which both hits drove in a run.
  • Two innings later first-year Kiernan Caffrey drove in classmate Jackson Haker from second on a ground-rule double down the leftfield line. Nazzaro reached third on the double and scored on a wild pitch to make it a one-run game.
  • Saint Anselm added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning before AIC went off for six runs in the eighth. Senior Angel Mendez doubled to center to get the blood pumping and scored on a single through the left side from Haker. He came around when Nazzaro singled to right and the right fielder misplayed the ball. With the bases loaded freshman Austin Bequeath drew a 2-0 hit by pitch followed by a double off the bat of Morse which cleared the bases and gave AIC the 13-9 lead.
  • The Hawks chipped away in the eighth and tied the game before Mike Borrelli sent a 3-2 pitch over the fence to end the game.

Game 2:

  • The Hawks scored the first nine runs of the game. They had two in the second and the third before adding three in the sixth and two in the seventh.
  • In the top of the eighth, the bases were loaded when Caffrey drew a walk. After a pitching change, Lavelle reached on a fielder's choice to score Haker.
  • Saint Anselm added five in the eighth to take the game 14-3.
