HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Yellow Jackets held the Owls hitless in the first inning before scoring runs in the bottom half. Senior Dalton Quinn dug in and singled to load the bases. Rookie Kyle Leifert pushed in two runs with a hit through the right side.
- The bats continued to be live for the Yellow Jackets. With two outs, Cruz walked and Haker went deep to left center to give AIC the 5-0 lead.
- Southern Connecticut scored the next eight runs to take the 8-5 lead.
- With two outs, graduate student Angel Mendez tripled to left field to start the Yellow Jackets threat. Cruz wore a pitch before Haker singled to right which allowed Mendez to score and Cruz to advance 180 feet before scoring on a single to third by freshman Michael Nazzaro. After four innings, the Owls led 8-7.
- In the fifth the Owls took advantage of AIC miscues to take the 11-7 lead and extended it by three in the eighth and two in the ninth.
- The Yellow Jackets added a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by rookie Alexander Morse, but fell 16-8.
