HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Skyhawks opened the scoring in the second. A walk by Shannon Conte and an infield single by Alexandra Hammond followed by a sacrifice bunt to move them over. Conte came home on a grounder to short, and Hammond came on the next play, another sacrifice bunt by Chloe Kelly.
  • Paige Wodarski led off the third with a home run to add to the visiting team's lead.
  • In the fifth, Courtney Brochu led off with a single to right. AIC was able to get the lead runner twice on fielder's choices, but ultimately Hammond hit a double off the third base bag, allowing May Dawes to score and giving the guests second and third. The threat was cut short, however, by a pickoff play that saw catcher Victoria Andrade throw to second baseman Noelle Gramlich, who fired back home to nail Conte at the plate.
  • In the bottom half, Brianna Harzula led off with a hard-hit double to left and advanced on a groundout. She came in on a wild pitch, scoring AIC's first run. However, the Yellow Jackets could not score again, as the Skyhawks held on for the 4-1 win.
  • In game two, a leadoff walk by Kelly turned into a run as she was advanced on a sacrifice and driven in by Wodarski.
  • In the second, Hammond doubled to left and then stole third, ultimately scoring on a passed ball.
  • The Yellow Jackets generated their biggest threat of the game in the third, with a bunt single by Laila Cofone, who stole second. Lilly Acampora followed with a roller to the shortstop, who had to look back Cofone, and the delay allowed Acampora to beat the throw. Cofone took third anyway, and Abigail Wells followed with a walk to load the bases. However, AIC was stopped there.
  • In the fourth, the Skyhawks scored what proved to be the final run of the game, with a single, walk, sacrifice, and infield single by Emily Nardelli to drive in the run. AIC only managed one hit thereafter in the 3-0 loss.

NEXT UP:
  • Le Moyne will play at Judy Groff Field on Thursday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. to open a doubleheader.
  • The games, originally slated for Syracuse, New York, were moved to Springfield due to inclement weather in the area and field conditions; the Dolphins will serve as the home team for the contests.
