HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Dolphins, who were the home team for the games, struck first for the game's first run as Isabelle Boudreau reached on a bunt single, stole second, and took third on an error in the bottom of the first. She tagged home on an Alyssa Dybacz sacrifice fly.
- Boudreau bunted for a hit again in the third, and advanced two bases on a sacrifice bunt before scoring as Dybacz drove her in, this time with a hit through the left side.
- Victoria Catalano led off the fourth with a home run, and the Dolphins were able to add four more after that with five hits alongside three errors and a wild pitch to take a 7-0 lead.
- The Dolphins walked off, literally, in the sixth, as Catalano walked with the bases loaded to bring in the eighth run of the game and close out the contest.
- In the second game, Dybacz led off the second with a double, and after a walk by Elaina Kassap, scored on a double by Catalano. The Dolphins ultimately scored three more runs on a combination of wild pitches and passed balls before a single by Brooke Nicolaos drove Boudreau home for the fifth run, and Cassidy Barrett singled her in to make it 6-0.
- In the fourth, AIC scratched out a run. Abigail Wells laid a perfect bunt up the third base line and beat the throw, and moved to third as Kodi Gora hit a single into left center. Leah Twyman came up to the plate and faked a bunt, causing the catcher to miss the pitch and allowing Wells to score.
- The Dolphins responded, as Dominique Russo walked and Isabelle Boudreau was hit by a pitch; both scored on Nicolaos's double, and Nicolaos herself later came in on a wild pitch.
- In the fifth, AIC scored twice. Brianna Harzula led off with a single, and Laila Cofone followed two batters later with a walk. Lilly Acampora attempted to sacrifice them over, and reached herself as the throw from third went awry. Wells came to the dish and hit a fly to right center that would have scored Harzula, but the right fielder muffed the catch, which allowed Cofone to score as well.
- Acampora hit a two-out single in the seventh, the last of AIC's offense in the 9-3 setback.
THE FIRST FOR SULLIVAN:
- At the plate in the third inning for just the fifth time on the season and ninth time in her collegiate career, pitcher Riley Sullivan earned her first career hit in the second game.
- She smacked a hard grounder that kicked off of third base, which gave her enough extra time to beat the throw across the diamond.
NEXT UP:
- AIC will have a much-needed day off before a trip to New Hampshire for four weekend games.
- The Yellow Jackets visit Saint Anselm College on Saturday, April 23 and Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday, April 24.
- Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. starts.
