HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
  • The Setters came out hot and scored 11 runs on eight hits in the first inning of the game to take the early lead.
  • In the bottom of the second sophomore Michael Nazzaro hit a one-out double down the line past a diving first baseman with one out. He came out to score when senior Dalton Quinn singled to left to put AIC's only run of the game on the board.
  • The Setters added a run in the third and three in the seventh to take the first game by a score of 15-3.
Game 2:
  • Just like the first game, the Setters wasted no time putting runs on the board. They scored two in the first and four in the second to take the early lead.
  • In the bottom of the third rookie Jackson Haker sent a shot to left field for a single. Graduate Anthony Clark followed with a single up the middle to give AIC runners on first and second. After an out, junior Chad Lavelle singled down the right field line and Haker got the wave home to put AIC on the board and Clark went to third. Lavelle took off on a pitch to junior Michael Cruz which drew a throw and Clark broke home to put the second Yellow Jacket run on the board.
  • Pace added a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on three hits and left two stranded.
  • In the bottom of the fourth Haker had a one-out single. After an out and stolen base, Mendez forced a walk to put two Yellow Jackets on the pond. The Setters went to the arm barn as Lavelle was set to dig in. He ended up taking a pitch down the right field line for a three-run home run.
  • The Setters continued to score as they put four runs on the board thanks to three hits and a Yellow Jacket error to extend their lead to 12-3 through four and a half innings. In the top of the sixth, they added four more runs as they continued to pull away.
  • In the bottom of the seventh Cruz walked and stole second base to lead things off. After a fly out Caffrey hit a shot to the left side which the shortstop got to and set his feet and threw. The throw, which would have been late, got past the first baseman and allowed Cruz to score and Caffrey to go to third. Two batters later Quinn went deep to left center in a no-doubter to make it a 17-8 game.
NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Tuesday, April 12 at 3:30 when they host the University of Bridgeport in non-conference action.
