HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- In the top of the second inning, the Golden Knights put three runs on the board with the help of three hits to take the lead while stranding a pair.
- The Yellow Jackets got things going in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Angel Mendez led the frame with a single to short. After a pair of outs, junior Alejandro Mosquera singled to right, and Mendez headed to third. Both runners advanced on a passed ball as Mendez scored the first AIC run. After a hit by a pitch and walk, the bases were loaded as newcomer Kiernan Caffrey walked and recorded an RBI. Sophomore Cameron Fitzgerald scored on a passed ball to tie the game at three.
- After the Golden Knights scored a run in the top of the sixth, the Yellow Jackets took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the stanza. Graduate Anthony Clark singled down the right field line followed by a single to center by Mendez. After a double steal, junior Chad Lavelle singled to second where Clark and Mendez scored to give AIC the 5-4 lead.
- The Golden Knights clapped back before the seventh inning stretch with a pair of runs to retake the lead.
- To their dismay, Caffery hit a one-out single to center field and advanced to third on a fielding error by the centerfielder before scoring on a sacrifice fly by rookie Jackson Haker.
- The lead continued to teeter-totter as the Golden Knights added a pair of runs after the Yellow Jackets went to the arm barn in the top of the eighth.
- AIC put a run on the board in the eighth when Lavelle scored from third in a fielder's choice off the bat of Fitzgerald.
- Saint Rose continued to put their foot on the gas as they increased their lead by three-runs to take the 11-7 advantage into the final half-inning.
- AIC went down fighting as Haker and Mendez scored in the inning but the rally fell short as St. Rose took the game 11-9.
Game 2:
- After an inning and a half of scoreless baseball, the Yellow Jackets put a crooked number on the board. With the bases loaded Mendez singled through the left side which allowed Caffery and Fitzgerald to score. Lavelle followed that with a single up to the middle and sophomore Michael Nazzaro scored from third.
- In the bottom of the fourth Mosquera dug in with the bases loaded and hit a no-doubter to left field and giving AIC the 7-0 advantage.
- The lead did not last long as the Golden Knights went off for eight runs in the top of the fifth which included a grand slam of their own. They continued their streak in the top of the sixth as they added two runs to make it 10-7.
- As AIC came up to bat in the final inning of the seven-inning game they added a run when Caffery scored on a double by Nazzaro to left center.
