WORCESTER, Massachusetts – The American International College women's volleyball team won the Northeast-10 Conference regular season title for the second consecutive season, finishing the job with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-19 sweep of Assumption University on Saturday, November 5.
AIC is now 26-2 overall, with an 11-1 NE10 record.
An early eight-point run featuring multiple kills by Paola Soto Burgos and Kristina Peric started the match off right for AIC. Peric also kicked off another run later in the first with a kill and two aces, with Andrea Serra Rosa adding three other kills to put AIC up 19-8. Ultimately, Soto Burgos finished the set with a kill.
The second set was more of the same, with Dora Butkovic joining Soto Burgos with two points each in an early run to get ahead 9-5. Aleksandra Ivanovic landed five kills in the set, and Serra Rosa pounded home the final shot to get AIC ahead 2-0.
AIC was not going to let the Greyhounds back in, starting with a seven-point run early in the third as Jalyn Brown registered a kill and had a hand on a block before Serra Rosa scored a pair of aces. She ultimately had three kills in the set, including match point, to finish the job.
In total, AIC put away 48 kills on 88 swings, hitting .398 as a team. Soto Burgos was .500 on 13 kills with three errors on 20 swings, while Ivanovic had eight kills with no errors on 10 swings to hit .800. Naomi Eckert Rivera notched 39 assists, while Serra Rosa had 11 kills and 12 digs.
AIC will next play in the NE10 Quarterfinal at the Butova Gym on Thursday, November 10 at 6:00 p.m. Opponent is to be determined.
