Football upends Bentley in road finale

WALTHAM, Massachusetts – The American International College football team won a hard-fought 18-12 battle against Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University on Saturday, November 5.

AIC's offense started in earnest with its second drive. Pinned deep in their own territory, the Yellow Jackets benefitted from a 63-yard rush by Sidiki Kone to get to the Bentley 35. AIC moved closer before Josh Hamel booted a 45-yard field goal at 6:18 to put the team ahead.

AIC's next offensive drive likewise resulted in a field goal, keyed by a pair of long rushes by Chase Speller including a 37-yard breakout. Hamel's kick from 47 went through at 0:53 of the second quarter.

Finally, AIC broke the plane with the following drive, after a Bentley field goal miss. It was two big passing plays by Brandon Robinson that made it happen, as he hit Dahvey Hicks for a 32-yard gain to the Bentley 48, and then found Clark Marchand on the left side for a 48-yard touchdown pass at 5:51, putting AIC up 12-0.

In the third, Bentley got on the scoreboard. A long drive for the Falcons ended with a Mark Waid touchdown pass to Nayvon Reid from the AIC four-yard line, and Mason Campbell's kick for the PAT was good at the 10:49 mark.

The Falcons had a chance to take the lead in the fourth, driving 97 yards from their own two-yard line but were denied by the AIC defense on four plays inside of the five. Campbell did connect on the field goal, cutting AIC's edge to 12-10 with 7:50 to play.

Bentley took the ball back for one more attempt to score, but it was to no avail, and the last play of the game was a strip sack by Ahmad Rabah that allowed Tyson Thornton to recover for a touchdown, sealing the 18-10 win.

AIC's final game of the season is scheduled for noon on Saturday, November 12. It will be senior day against Saint Anselm College.
