MANCHESTER, New Hampshire – A late goal by Leya Vohra was the difference as the American International College women's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Saturday, October 8.
AIC is now 5-3-3 overall with a 3-3-2 NE10 mark.
The Yellow Jackets struck first just past the 10-minute mark, as Cameron Wilbur fired a brilliant through ball to Caroline Porter that split the center backs. Porter wired her shot off the left post and in at 10:09 for her second of the year.
The Hawks countered less than two minutes later. Olivia Gotobed's throw-in from the right sideline was crossed by Josie Pecor into the box and headed into the net at the right post by Riley DiGilio at 11:54.
The game seemed destined to end that way, particularly with Avery Lein making five saves in her first collegiate start, but the Yellow Jackets broke the deadlock with under nine minutes to go. A bouncing ball at the top of the 18-yard box in front of Saint Anselm's net was deflected by Vohra, and it trickled past Emma Hudson for what proved to be the deciding tally.
Lein's five stops earned her the first win of her career, as she improves to 1-0-0.
AIC will next host The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m.
