SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's volleyball team defeated the Le Moyne Dolphins 25-12, 25-18, 25-15 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Tuesday, October 18.
AIC improves to 21-1 overall and 7-0 in the NE10 with the win.
Even at 8-8 in the first set, AIC went on a nine-point run to put the first out of reach. The Yellow Jackets finished it off with a three-point run, as Andjela Bublic put down a pair of kills before Mai-Lani Hernandez sent set point to the floor.
The second set was slightly more back-and-forth, although AIC was still in control thanks to a few three-point runs, including one of two Aleksandra Ivanovic kills and a Kristina Peric ace and another of three straight kills by Dora Butkovic. Peric ultimately was the one who put away the set point to push AIC's lead to 2-0.
AIC had a chance to put the match away and knew it, jumping to a 7-1 lead. The Dolphins made a small push, but it was not meant to be for the visitors, as AIC kept adding to the advantage. Ahead 21-15, Bublic scored a kill and followed with an ace, before Peric and Ivanovic both scored kills of their own to close the match out.
As a team, AIC hit .337, with 43 kills against 12 attack errors. Butkovic had 11, swinging .455 on the afternoon, while Ivanovic scored six kills on just seven swings. Naomi Eckert Rivera and Alice Di Francesco split time setting, collecting 20 and 17 assists, respectively, and both scored a kill as well.
AIC continues NE10 play with a trip to New Hampshire on Friday, October 21 against Saint Anselm College at 6:00 p.m., followed the next day by a 1:00 p.m. tilt with Southern New Hampshire University.
